The League of Independent Democrats of Northeastern Illinois
was founded in June, 2000 by a group of dedicated life-long Democrats
with a mission to build public awareness of and loyalty to Democratic
issues and candidates.
While all members of and workers within official Democratic organizations,
the founders of the League wanted to have the option to publicly promote
and explore issues they felt were important to local voters and to seek
out, endorse and support candidates most in tune with Democratic voters.
Rather than focus on the workings of the state, county or other local
party organizations, it is the purpose of the League to engage voters
in discussion of ideas and issues that matter
most to them at the polls.
In addition, the League was formed to raise funds and organize resources
in order to help the election of deserving Democratic candidates, especially
those whose lack of affiliation with established official party organizations
leave them at a disadvantage.
The League of Independent Democrats of Northeastern Illinois welcomes
as members all local Democrats:
who believe that among the most important duties of a political
party is relating to voters directly and providing leadership in setting
the agenda for public discussion and policy;
who believe that the party system is important to help differentiate
candidates and their platforms, as well as to guide voters in positioning
themselves on various issues;
who want to help build public awareness of, familiarity with
and loyalty to Democratic ideals;
who are willing to publicly support Democratic candidates and
to help seek out the most qualified people to run for office as Democrats;
who are able and willing to explore issues and ideas of importance
to local voters and to formulate positions consistent with Democratic
party principles;
who are willing to advise and assist deserving Democrat candidates
to ensure their election.
